Ramah
“Ramah” is a Hebrew word meaning “high place” or “height.”
You can count on the Camp Ramah experience to take you to new heights socially,
spiritually and professionally!
Shlichim
“Shlichim” is a Hebrew word meaning “emissary” or
“messenger.” Every Ramah camp is enriched by the participation of a group of
Shlichim, (also known as the “Mishlachat” or “delegation”) from Israel, who
share their love for Israel with campers and staff throughout the summer. The
Shlichim are staff and are typically all ages and are involved in every aspect
of camp educational and administrative activities, thus imbuing the entire camp
with the spirit of Israel. In addition, the Shlichim typically reinforce the
daily use of Hebrew throughout all aspects of camp and also organize special
activities to foster the Ramah community’s close personal relationship with
Israel.
Tikvah
“Tikvah”
is a Hebrew word meaning “hope.” At Ramah, the Tikvah Program is a camping
program for Jewish children and teens with special needs, learning problems and
social difficulties. Tikvah provides an
overnight summer camp experience that integrates Judaism with traditional camp
activities. The Tikvah Program emphasizes
social development and Jewish learning through individualized experiences and
inclusion in general camp programs as much as is possible. Four Ramah camps –
Wisconsin, New England, California and Canada – maintain Tikvah Programs, while
New England and California also have Vocational Education programs where older
teens with special needs not only experience camp activities, but work at camp
as staff members and learn life skills.
