Senior
Staff/Administration
Division Head (Rosh Edah) The division
head is a senior staff member with previous experience in camping
and/or Jewish education who is responsible for overseeing the programming
and the staff for an entire age group consisting of multiple bunks
with a total of 50 - 90 campers. The division head, usually a college
graduate, is the direct supervisor of a staff of between four and
twelve counselors.

Specialty Head (Rosh Anaf) The
specialty head possesses previous experience in his/her specialty
area and is responsible for overseeing the programming and the staff
for that specialty area. The specialty staff in any given area can
range from just a few to as many as 10 staff members. Specialty heads
are needed for performing arts, sports, arts and crafts, waterfront,
and the outdoors program. For details, please refer to the individual
specialty areas.

Advisor (Yoetz/et)/Staff Trainer The yoetz/et is a senior
staff member who has experience working with children and young adults.
The yoetz/et serves as a resource person for the campers and the staff
members in dealing with the developmental issues that often arise
in the camp setting. The yoetz/et possesses the professional skills
to deal with children and their parents as well as staff members of
all ages. The yoetz/et also plans and facilitates staff training sessions
for counselors during the course of the summer.

Program Coordinator (Meracaz/et Peulot) The program coordinator
is responsible for overseeing the camp-wide schedule and calendar.
This individual must possess good organizational skills and be able
to balance the logistical needs of the camp. Responsibilities may
include compiling a camp-wide newsletter, transportation arrangements
for trips, and coordination of schedules for buildings and programs
within camp.

Coordinator of Education (Rosh Hinuch) The coordinator of
education is a Jewish educator who oversees the curriculum development
and educational program of the camp. Each Ramah camp conducts classes
in Hebrew and Judaic studies for staff and campers. The coordinator
of education is responsible for the administrative elements of the
program as well as supervision of the teaching staff. This person
is a resource for the educational staff as well as other camp staff
as they work to incorporate Jewish education into camp life.

Waterfront
Swim Specialist The swim specialist
is a member of the waterfront staff. He/she must have certification
as a lifeguard. Responsibilities include teaching instructional swim
and acting as a lifeguard during recreational swim time. Depending
on the camp, there is either a lake and/or a pool. If you are not
currently certified as a lifeguard, the camp may be able to assist
you in obtaining your certification for the summer.
Boating Specialist Many of the
camps have programs in boating, sailing, and canoeing. Some of the
camps also have windsurfing. As a member of the waterfront staff,
you may teach skills as well as supervise recreational time.
Head of the Waterfront Program (Rosh Mayim,
Rosh Agam, Rosh Braicha) The head of the waterfront is responsible
for overseeing the entire waterfront (mayim) program. The waterfront
program varies from camp to camp. Responsibilities include supervision
of the pool (braicha) and/or lake (agam). The head of waterfront coordinates
all swimming programs and supervises all waterfront staff including
boating and other specialties. Appropriate certifications and experience
are a must.
Sports
Archery Specialist
The archery specialist is a member of the sports staff. As the specialist
in archery, you will be expected to plan and provide instruction in
archery during camper elective periods. You may be called upon to
provide sports coverage for bunk or edah (division) activities at
other times during the day. In some cases, our camps participate in
inter-camp sports competitions.
Baseball
Specialist The baseball specialist is a member of the sports
staff. As the specialist in baseball, you will be expected to plan
and provide instruction in baseball during camper elective periods.
You may be called upon to provide sports coverage for bunk or edah
(division) activities at other times during the day. In some cases,
our camps participate in inter-camp sports competitions.
Basketball
Specialist The basketball specialist is a member of the sports
staff. As the specialist in basketball, you will be expected to plan
and provide instruction in basketball during camper elective periods.
You may be called upon to provide sports coverage for bunk or edah
(division) activities at other times during the day. In some cases,
our camps participate in inter-camp sports competitions.
Gymnastics
Specialist The gymnastics specialist is a member of the sports
staff. As the specialist in gymnastics, you will be expected to plan
and provide instruction in gymnastics during camper elective periods.
You may be called upon to provide sports coverage for bunk or edah
(division) activities at other times during the day. In some cases,
our camps participate in inter-camp sports competitions.
Hockey Specialist
The hockey specialist is a member of the sports staff. As the specialist
in hockey, you will be expected to plan and provide instruction in
hockey during camper elective periods. You may be called upon to provide
sports coverage for bunk or edah (division) activities at other times
during the day. In some cases, our camps participate in inter-camp
sports competitions.
Rock Climbing
Specialist The rock climbing specialist is someone who is
trained in rock climbing. Many of our camps have rock climbing walls.
As the specialist in this area, you would be expected to plan and
implement instructional sessions as well as recreational sessions.
In some cases, this individual is part of the outdoor education staff
and may have other duties in the area of outdoor education.
Ropes Specialist Some of our camps have ropes courses
that require a trained individual to supervise and teach the necessary
skills. The ropes course is an exciting and challenging activity for
campers. Depending upon the camp, the ropes specialist may be part
of sports staff or the outdoor educational staff.
Soccer Specialist
The soccer specialist is a member of the sports staff. As the
specialist in soccer, you will be expected to plan and provide instruction
in soccer during camper elective periods. You may be called upon to
provide sports coverage for bunk or edah (division) activities at
other times during the day. In some cases, our camps participate in
inter-camp sports competitions.
Softball
Specialist The softball specialist is a member of the sports
staff. As the specialist in softball, you will be expected to plan
and provide instruction in softball during camper elective periods.
You may be called upon to provide sports coverage for bunk or edah
(division) activities at other times during the day. In some cases,
our camps participate in inter-camp sports competitions.
Tennis Specialist
The tennis specialist is a member of the sports staff. As the specialist
in tennis, you will be expected to plan and provide instruction in
tennis during camper elective periods. You may be called upon to provide
sports coverage for bunk or edah (division) activities at other times
during the day. In some cases, our camps participate in inter-camp
sports competitions.
Volleyball
Specialist The volleyball specialist is a member of the sports
staff. As the specialist in volleyball, you will be expected to plan
and provide instruction in volleyball during camper elective periods.
You may be called upon to provide sports coverage for bunk or edah
(division) activities at other times during the day. In some cases,
our camps participate in inter-camp sports competitions.

Program (Rosh Sport) The head of the sports program is responsible
for overseeing the entire sports program including instruction and
recreation. Responsibilities are administrative and supervisory in
nature. Many of the camps participate in inter-camp competitions that
are coordinated by the head of the sports program.
Arts and Crafts
Arts and Crafts Specialist The
arts and crafts specialist is part of a larger staff in camp that
is managed by a specialty head. All members of the arts and crafts
staff should feel comfortable in their area of expertise and be able
to assist in other areas of arts and crafts. Arts and crafts is offered
as an elective for campers of all ages. As a specialist, you are expected
to plan and teach multiple sessions each day. You may also be called
upon as a consultant in your area of expertise by other staff members
who are planning bunk or edah (division) activities.
Judaic Arts and Crafts Specialist
As a specialist in Judaic arts and crafts, you are called upon
to teach campers skills related to making Jewish ritual objects. Some
of our camps offer kippah and tallit making among the
choices of electives in the area of arts and crafts. Many of the projects
in arts and crafts are centered around Jewish holidays and rituals
such as havdalah sets and challah covers.
Calligraphy Specialist The calligraphy
specialist is a member of the arts and crafts staff in camp. Calligraphy
may be offered as one of many arts and crafts electives for campers
of all ages. As the calligraphy specialist, you are expected to plan
and teach multiple sessions each day. You may also be called upon
as a consultant in your area of expertise by other staff members who
are planning bunk or edah (division) activities.
Ceramics Specialist The specialist
in ceramics is a member of the arts and crafts staff in camp. Arts
and crafts is offered as an elective for campers of all ages. As a
specialist, you are expected to plan and teach multiple sessions each
day. You may also be called upon as a consultant in your area of expertise
by other staff members who are planning bunk or edah (division) activities.
Drawing Specialist The drawing
specialist is a member of the arts and crafts staff in camp. Drawing
may be offered in different mediums including paper and silk. Arts
and crafts is offered as an elective for campers of all ages. As a
specialist, you are expected to plan and teach multiple sessions each
day. You may also be called upon as a consultant in your area of expertise
by other staff members who are planning bunk or edah (division) activities.
Jewelry Making Specialist The
jewelry making specialist is a member of the arts and crafts staff
in camp. Arts and crafts is offered as an elective for campers of
all ages. As a specialist, you are expected to plan and teach multiple
sessions each day. You may also be called upon as a consultant in
your area of expertise by other staff members who are planning bunk
or edah (division) activities.
Metal Working Specialist The metal
working specialist is a member of the arts and crafts staff in camp.
Arts and crafts is offered as an elective for campers of all ages.
As a specialist, you are expected to plan and teach multiple sessions
each day. You may also be called upon as a consultant in your area
of expertise by other staff members who are planning bunk or edah
(division) activities.
Painting Specialist The painting
specialist is a member of the arts and crafts staff in camp. Painting
may be offered as one of the many arts and crafts electives from which
the campers may choose. The painting specialist is expected to plan
and teach multiple sessions each day. You may also be called upon
as a consultant in your area of expertise by other staff members who
are planning bunk or edah (division) activities.
Paper Cutting Specialist The paper
cutting specialist is a member of the arts and crafts staff in camp.
Arts and crafts is offered as an elective for campers of all ages.
As the paper cutting specialist, you are expected to plan and teach
multiple sessions each day. You may also be called upon as a consultant
in your area of expertise by other staff members who are planning
bunk or edah (division) activities.
Photography Specialist Photography is offered as a camper
elective. As the photography specialist, you are responsible for planning
and implementing these sessions. The photography specialist should
possess skills in photography that include photo taking and development.
Woodworking Specialist Woodworking
is one of the many electives that are offered during the day at camp.
The woodworking specialist has responsibility for planning and implementing
these sessions. Woodworking is often included as part of the extensive
arts and crafts program. All specialists are encouraged to incorporate
Jewish themes into their area of expertise.
Head of Arts and Crafts (Rosh Omanut)
The head of the arts and crafts program has experience
in arts and crafts and feels comfortable working with and teaching
a variety of different arts and crafts. This individual is responsible
for overseeing the entire arts and crafts program including instruction
and supplies. Responsibilities are administrative and supervisory
in nature.
Outdoor Education
and Nature
Hiking Specialist The hiking specialist
may be a member of the outdoor education staff. The hiking specialist
leads hikes both in and out of camp. As the hiking specialist, you
act as a consultant to other staff members in camp who are planning
hikes for their bunks or their edah (division).
Outdoor Educator As a member of the outdoors staff,
the outdoor educator is responsible for planning and implementing
outdoor educational programs for campers both in and out of camp.
The outdoor educator leads one to five day hiking and camping trips
outside of camp. Special certification in CPR and first aid is required.
Depending on the camp, there may be a minimum age requirement.
Nature Specialist Nature is offered
as an elective during the day, and the nature specialist is responsible
for planning and implementing these sessions. Each camp has a nature
program which may be part of a larger outdoor educational program.
Often, the nature specialist acts as a consultant to the bunk counselors
when they are planning nature walks and campfire activities.
Rock Climbing Specialist The rock
climbing specialist is someone who is trained in rock climbing. Many
of our camps have rock climbing walls. As the specialist in this area,
you would be expected to plan and implement instructional sessions
as well as recreational sessions. In some cases, this individual is
part of the outdoor education staff and may have other duties in the
area of outdoor education.
Ropes Specialist Some of our camps

who is trained in hiking and camping to provide vision and staff training
for the outdoor education program. Appropriate certifications are
a must. In addition to providing education and training, your responsibilities
are administrative and supervisory in nature.
Education and Prayer
Early Childhood Educator (Gannen/et, Rosh
Gan) The early childhood educator works in the Gan (pre-camper
age program) to provide age-appropriate recreational and educational
programming for a small group of children between the ages of 2 and
7 whose parents work in the summer camp setting.
Teacher (Moreh/Morah) The Hebrew
and Judaic studies teacher educates campers in structured classes
according to a well-thought out curriculum as well as takes advantage
of the many educational moments that present themselves in an informal
setting.
Tefillah Educator Tefillot (prayers)
are an essential part of our camps. We require an individual who is
knowledgeable in leading and teaching the different parts of the daily
and Shabbat services. As a tefillah educator, you work with staff
and campers in camp to make the tefillah program innovative, exciting,
and educational. The tefillah educator is often called upon to tutor
campers in preparation for their Bar/Bat Mitzvahs.
Tefillah Coordinator (Rosh Tefillah)
The tefillah (prayer) coordinator oversees the tefillah program for
the camp. This person works with the tefillah educators and serves
as a resource person to other staff members in camp on issues of tefillot
and teaching tefillot. Included among the responsibilities of the
tefillah coordinator is making sure that each of the services in camp
is run according to the standards of the Conservative movement. In
some cases, this individual is the one responsible for distributing
the weekly Torah portion and overseeing tutoring for campers who are
in the midst of preparing for Bar/Bat Mitzvah.

Performing Arts
Drama Specialist The drama specialist
works either as part of the performing arts staff or in conjunction
with others to produce plays in camp with the various age groups.
The drama productions are presented in Hebrew, and the drama specialist
should have a basic understanding of the Hebrew language. In some
of our camps, drama is offered as a camper elective. The drama specialist
is responsible for planning and implementing these sessions.
Israeli Dance Specialist Israeli dance is an important
part of the culture of Camp Ramah. Rikkud is incorporated into Shabbat
and daily activities. As a specialist in Israeli Dance, you would
teach campers and staff a variety of Israeli dances. It is the responsibility
of the Israeli dance specialist to plan and implement all dance sessions.
In some camps, there are large variety shows that focus on dance and/or
singing. You may work alone or with other staff members.
Modern Dance Specialist Modern
dance may be offered as a camper elective. As a specialist in the
area of modern dance, it is your responsibility to plan and teach
several sessions during the day. As a member of the dance staff in
camp, you may be asked to teach other types of dance.
Music Specialist The music specialist has multiple roles
in camp. If music is offered as an elective, the music specialist
is responsible for planning and implementing these sessions. The music
specialist should feel comfortable in his/her area of expertise. The
music specialist often serves in the capacity of accompanist for musical
performances, plays, and camp-wide presentations. In some cases, the
position of music specialist is combined with the position of song
leader or may be a member of the performing arts staff.
Song Leader Shira (singing) is an important part of
the camp culture at Camp Ramah. The song leader is a specialist who
may work with others on the performing arts staff. The song leader
should feel confident and possess the skills necessary to lead the
entire camp in song in Hebrew. The song leader also teaches several
sessions during the day. In some camps, there are large variety shows
that focus on singing and/or dance.
Audio Visual Specialist The A-V
specialist is responsible for videotaping in camp. Many of our camps
produce their own camp videos. As the audiovisual specialist, you
videotape bunk activities, edah (division) programs, as well as camp-wide
activities. In some cases, video may be offered as a camper elective,
in which case, you would plan and implement these sessions. Others
often call upon your skills as the A-V specialist in camp to help
with technical matters.
Lighting and Tech Specialist The
lighting and tech specialist is responsible for providing lighting
and tech support for all plays and camp wide productions. This individual
will also provide instruction and supervision for older campers and
staff who are interested in learning the skills involved with lighting
and tech support.
Head of Performing Arts The head
of the performing arts department is responsible for the administrative
details of the performing arts program and supervises the performing
arts staff. The performing arts staff may consist of drama specialists,
music specialists, song leaders, and dance specialists. During the
course of the summer, there are many camp wide productions and plays
that are produced for the entire camp.
Medical
Camp Nurse As part of the medical
team, the camp nurse helps to run the camp infirmary. The nurse provides
nursing care including distribution of all medications. As a health
care professional in camp, you work with other nurses, the camp doctor,
and the camp director to ensure that everyone in camp receives proper
medical attention. Those who cannot make a commitment to the full
summer are welcome to apply for shorter periods of time.
Camp Doctor The camp doctor is
a vital part of the medical team in camp. The doctor is available
for sick call and medical emergencies in camp. You will work with
a team of health care professionals to ensure that everyone in camp
receives proper medical attention. Our doctors often come to camp
for a week or two during the summer to get away from their busy medical
practices at home.
Service and Support Staff
Canteen
Staff Each camp has
its own canteen where campers and staff can purchase snacks and Ramah
memorabilia. The individual who supervises the canteen is responsible
for supplies and supervision of other staff. Positions are available
for high school and college-age staff as well. Money management skills
are a must for this position.
Driver There
are many errands to be run and appointments to be kept outside of
the camp community. The camp driver often purchases supplies, picks
up necessary miscellaneous, and takes campers to medical appointments.
This individual must possess a valid driver’s license.
Kitchen and
Dining Room Staff There are many positions open in our kitchen.
The Ramah camps are always looking for cooks, food handlers, and dishwashers.
In addition, many of our camps require an individual with experience
in food services and good organizational skills to manage the dining
room (hadar ochel).
Maintenance
Staff Individuals with skills in general maintenance are always
needed at our camps to help with the upkeep of our vast physical plants.
This individual works with others as part of the maintenance team.
Office Staff
The staff member who works in the camp office is vital to the everyday
operations of camp. This individual is responsible for answering phones,
taking messages, and providing secretarial support to the camp. Good
communication skills are important.
Tikvah (Special Needs) Program
Tikvah Counselor
A college-age student, the counselor is the live in staff member responsible
for facilitating the daily routine, planning recreational activities,
and implementing educational programs for a bunk of campers. The tikvah
counselor has experience working with children with special needs.
Tikvah Division Head
(Rosh Edah) The division head is a senior staff member with
previous experience in special education who is responsible for
overseeing the day to day programming and the staff for the special
needs program. The division head, usually a college graduate, works
with the director of the Tikvah program.
